Dialogue with Earth

                    Maryland
                    April 23, 2008

Every exchange between us
Suspends a moment of time
Like silt in a glass of cloudy water.
Weight and buoyancy play off each other
Like the yin and yang of lovers.
How did we get to this place?
Have we gone too far?
How did you become you; and I, I?
Is the sanctuary caustic and corroded?
Have I brought you to a place of righteous punishment?
Are we prisoners of a new sort of faith?
Fields of broken stone, to some a measure of success
Leave me with just echoes and fragrance.

Big Bang

Shredded stone, born of the wind
Sharp, amazed,
Hidden in the bodies of countless silent lives.

The west marker is flashing by;
Harks back to a time of balked desires,
So far from home.

I trust in fixed arrangements,
The arms of God,
This fading body in orbit,
And the ashes of everything.
Smoldering signaled changes read from the echo
Provide me no answers;
Only pose dangerous questions.

It is not exactly clear
How the grasslands will be re-made.
We need dense scrutiny here.
No reservation that the empty womb will bear again.
